Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) Model

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a progressive condition commonly affecting older men, with prevalence exceeding 80% in those aged 70 and above. Pathologically, BPH is characterized by benign proliferation of prostatic epithelial and stromal tissues, leading to enlargement of the transitional zone around the urethra. Clinically, this can result in lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), bladder outlet obstruction, urinary tract infections, and, in advanced cases, renal and cardiovascular complications.

Understanding the molecular and physiological mechanisms underlying BPH is critical for developing more effective therapies. Creative Bioarray's validated BPH rat model faithfully reproduces key features of human BPH, providing a reliable preclinical platform for evaluating drug candidates and therapeutic strategies targeting prostate enlargement and associated urinary dysfunction.

Our Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) Model

Animal Species

Rat

Modeling Method

BPH is induced by bilateral orchiectomy followed by subcutaneous administration of testosterone propionate.

Endpoints

  • Body weight
  • Prostate weight and prostate index
  • Urodynamic measurements (e.g., voiding time, interval)
  • Hormone levels
  • Histological analysis: H&E staining, etc
  • Molecular analysis: qPCR or Western blot
  • Customized endpoints
