Streptozotocin Induced Diabetes Mellitus Model

Streptozotocin (STZ) is an antibiotic isolated from Streptomyces achromogenes and is commonly used to establish a model of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) due to its ability to selectively destroy pancreatic islet β cells. STZ-induced T1DM model was produced by multiple administrations of low-dose STZ in mice, which mimics human T1DM with chronic pancreatic islet inflammation, insulitis, and insulin deficiency. Also, STZ can be used in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) model by the combination of STZ and nicotinamide.

Creative Bioarray focuses on drug research and development services and helps customers assess the pathological consequences of diabetes and screen potential therapies for the treatment of this condition.
