Cytogenetic analysis and DNA fingerprinting at the Creative Bioarray documented that this cell line is identical with the human prostate carcinoma-derived cell line DU-145, but shows some phenotypical differences; DU-145 was established from the tumor tissue removed from the metastatic central nervous system lesion of a 69-year-old man with prostate carcinoma in 1975
