Description
CYP2C9 is predominantly expressed in the liver and catalyzes the oxidation of weakly acidic or hydrophobic small molecules containing aromatic molecules and at least one hydrogen bond donor. Isoforms of the CYP2C subfamily are involved in the metabolism of nearly 20% of commonly used small molecule drugs.The human CYP2C9 gene has a high degree of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that have been implicated in clinical drug-drug interactions.
