ActoFactor™ Recombinant Human Interleukin 5
- Specification
- Recommended Products
Cat.No.
CSC-CTK0228
Description
Interleukin-5 (IL-5), also known as eosinophil differentiation factor (EDF), is a lineage-specific cytokine for eosinophilpoiesis. It regulates eosinophil growth and activation, and thus plays an important role in diseases associated with increased levels of eosinophils, including asthma. IL-5 has a similar overall fold to other cytokines (e.g. IL-2, IL-4 and GCSF), but while these exist as monomeric structures, IL-5 is a homodimer. Recombinant human IL-5 produced in E. coli is a dimeric, non-glycosylated polypeptide containing two 113 amino acids chains with a molecular mass of 26,523 Dalton.
Species
Human
Product Overview
Human IL5 expressed in E.coli
Molecular Mass
26.5 kDa
Size
CAT# CSC-CTK0228-10 (10 μg); CAT# CSC-CTK0228-50 (50 μg)
Expression System
E.coli
Purity
Greater than 98% as determined by SDS-PAGE and RP-HPLC analysis.
Activity
Recombinant human IL-5 is fully biologically active when compared to a standard. The ED50, as determined by the dose-dependant stimulation of the proliferation of TF-1 cells, was found to be less then 0.15 ng/ml corresponding to a specific activity of 6 x 10^6 IU/mg.
Endotoxin Level
Less than 1 EU/μg.
Formulation
Sterile-filtered, white, lyophilized (freeze-dried)powder. The protein was lyophilized from a concentrated (1 mg/ml), sterile solution with no additives.
Reconstitution
Please centrifuge product briefly before opening vial. The lyophilized protein should be reconstituted in sterile, ultra-pure water to a concentration of 0.1 - 1.0 mg/ml. This solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers and stored at -20°C for future use.
Storage & Stability
The lyophilized protein, though stable at room temperature for up to 3 weeks, is best stored desiccated at -20°C. Reconstituted rHu IL-5 should be used immediately or stored long-term in undiluted working aliquots at -20°C. For long-term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
