Description
Recombinant Rat Insulin Like Growth Factor-I (rRa IGF-I) is a well-characterized basic peptide believed to be secreted by the liver and to circulate in the blood. It has growth-regulating, insulin-like and mitogenic activities. This growth factor has a major, but not absolute, dependence on somatotropin. It is believed to be mainly active in adults in contrast to Insulin like Growth Factor 2, which is a major fetal growth factor. It stimulates the proliferation of a wide range of cell types including muscle, bone and cartilage tissue. Recombinant rat IGF-1 produced in E. coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain of 70 amino acids and a molecular mass of 7,687 Dalton.

                            Activity
Rat IGF-I is fully biologically active when compared to standards. The ED50 was calculated by two different methods: 1. Stimulation of protein synthesis in rat L6 myoblasts results in an ED50 that was less then 30 ng/ml. 2. Type 1 IGF receptor binding assay results in an ED50 Greater than 10 ng/ml.
                            Endotoxin Level
                                Less than 1 EU/μg.
                            Formulation
Sterile-filtered white lyophilized (freeze-dried) pow der. Rat IGF-I was lyophilized from a protein solution with no additives.
                            Reconstitution
Please centrifuge product briefly before opening the vial. The lyophilized protein should be reconstituted in sterile, ultra-pure water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. This solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers and stored at -20°C for future use.
                            Storage & Stability
The lyophilized protein, though stable at room temperature for up to 3 weeks, is best stored desiccated at -20°C. Reconstituted rRa IGF-I should be used immediately or stored long-term in undiluted working aliquots at -20°C. For long-term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
