Established from the ascitic fluid of a Sprague-Dawley rat (adult female, 240-days-old) with a rat mammary tumor in 1977; tumor was produced by injection of cultured cells from DMBA-induced mammary tumor (DMBA = 9,10-di-methyl-1,2-benzanthracene); derived from identical tumor as HH-16 cl.2/1; cells were described to produce invasive adenocarcinomas in S.D. rats upon s.c. injection with remote metastases in lymph nodes and lung
