CYP2C9 is predominantly expressed in the liver and catalyzes the oxidation of weakly acidic or hydrophobic small molecules containing aromatic molecules and at least one hydrogen bond donor. Isoforms of the CYP2C subfamily are involved in the metabolism of nearly 20% of commonly used small molecule drugs.The human CYP2C9 gene has a high degree of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that have been implicated in clinical drug-drug interactions. In addition, for drugs whose pharmacological activity requires metabolism from the prodrug form, CYP2C9 inhibition or allelic deficiency can lead to reduced drug efficacy.Creative Bioarray's CYP2C9 activity assay kits enable rapid measurement of native or recombinant CYP2C9 activity in biological samples, such as liver microsomes.
