Cloned from the parent cell line, IPLB-SF-21-AE, derived from pupal ovarian tissue of the fall armyworm (species Spodoptera frugiperda, family Noctuidae, order Lepidoptera); cells are susceptible to infection with MNPV and other Baculoviruses. The Sf9 cell line is a suitable host for the expression of recombinant proteins using baculovirus expression vectors.
Spodoptera frugiperda, Fall armyworm
Round, attached, epitheloid
InsProSF (MG-91) is recommended for the serum free propagation of Sf9 cells. Do not warm up, but rather use the cold medium.
Fluorescence (DAPI) test: negative; Mycoplasma specific PCR: negative.
Storage and Shipping
Frozen with 70% medium, 20% FBS, 10% DMSO at about 2.5 x 10^6 cells/ampoule; ship in dry ice; store in liquid nitrogen
This line can be used to replicate baculovirus expression vectors. This cell line is a suitable transfection host.
