Rat Mesenchymal Stem Cells (rMSC) are isolated from bone marrow taken from the femur and tibia of female Fischer 344 rats. These rMSCs test positive for surface markers CD29 and CD90, and negative for CD11b, CD34, and CD45 by flow cytometry. Cells also test positive using in vitro assays for adipogenesis indicated by Oil Red O, and osteogenesis indicated by calcium mineralization. Optimized media kits are available for growth and expansion of the cells as well as osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation.
