Established from a tumor in a female BALB/c mouse in 1968; cells were described to synthesize lysozyme and interleukin-1 and to have receptors for immunoglobulin and complement. Active in antibody dependent phagocytosis; growth is inhibited by extran sulfate, PPD and LPS; tested and found negative for ectromelia virus (mousepox).
Cytogenetics: murine hypotetraploid karyotype - 78(70-81) - in most cells a centric fragment was present - mouse chromosome morphology confirmed
Mycoplasma: negative in DAPI, microbiological culture, RNA hybridization, PCR assays

Frozen with 70% medium, 20% FBS, 10% DMSO at about 1 x 10^6 cells/ampoule; ship in dry ice; store in liquid nitrogen
