Description
Human Interleukin-6 (rHu IL-6) is is a potent lymphoid cell growth factor, which affects B- lymphocytes, T-lymphocytes and hybridoma cells. It is a cytokine with a wide variety of biological functions: it plays an essential role in the final differentiation of B-cells into Ig-secreting cells, it induces myeloma and plasmacytoma growth, it induces nerve cells differentiation, and in hepatocytes it induces acute phase reactants. rHu IL-6 will also affect cytotoxic T-cells in combination with other factors such as IL-2 and Interferon-gamma. Recombinant human IL-6 produced in HEK cells is a glycosylated monomer, having a molecular weight range of 26-30 kDa due to glycosylation. It has been purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.

Activity
rHu IL-6 is fully biologically active when compared to standards. The activity was determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of the proliferation of human TF-1 cells (human erythroleukemic indicator cell line) and is typically 0.2-1 ng/ml.

Formulation
Sterile-filtered, white, lyophilized (freeze-dried)powder. Lyophilized from a concentrated protein solution (1 mg/ml) in 1xPBS.
Reconstitution
Please centrifuge product briefly before opening vial. The lyophilized protein should be reconstituted in sterile, ultra-pure water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. This solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers and stored at -20°C for future use.
Storage & Stability
The lyophilized powder, though stable at room temperature for up to 3 weeks, is best stored desiccated at -20°C. Reconstituted IL-6 should be used immediately or stored long-term in undiluted working aliquots at -20°C. For long-term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0,1% HSA or BSA). Please avoid repeated freeze / thaw cycles.
